UAW 872 is hiring: Data Organizer

Overview 

This position is to support two locals, UAW Local 872 represents graduate student workers at the University of Southern California and Local 1115 representing California State Scientists. We are seeking a Data Organizer to help maintain and improve the systems that support our unions’ day-to-day operations and strategic campaigns. This role is central to ensuring both locals have accurate, accessible, and actionable data to support organizing, representation, and communication efforts.

Job Duties 

  • Clean and enter data from union authorization cards, organizing debriefs, online mobilization vehicles and other sources into a statewide DBeaver SQL database so that field organizers can work effectively and efficiently

  • Build imports and automate the importation of organizing data into the database

  • Analyze, synthesize, and report on organizing-related data including building dashboards for organizers and leadership

  • Build queries, database infrastructure and other tools to facilitate one-to-one organizing

  • Develop data protocols that optimize research and data entry workflows to ensure sustainable, long-term data practices

  • Collaborate with elected leaders and staff organizers to create reports and lists for communication, outreach, and internal organizing.

  • Identify gaps or inconsistencies in data and work with relevant parties to resolve them.

  • Other duties as assigned 

Job Requirements

  • Advanced usage of Google Sheets or Excel, including writing complex formulas that write to and from member databases. 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and follow through on tasks

  • Excellent communication skills via email, Slack, and text

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace and Zoom

  • Dedication and enthusiasm for the labor movement and social justice

  • Comfort with collaborative, worker-led decision-making processes

  • Experience with SQL is preferred 

  • At least 1–2 years of experience managing or working with organizing data; other relevant experience (e.g., research, administrative, or tech roles) will be considered.

  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed

Note: UAW Locals 872 and 1115 are unable to sponsor visas at this time

Pay 

  • Annual salary is $87,000 for 1.0 FTE

  • 6% employer contribution to 401k after 6 months for the portion of time working for Local 1115

  • Paid vacation, sick days, and holidays
