UAW 872 is hiring: Lead Organizer
Overview
UAW Local 872 is currently made up of graduate student workers at the University of Southern California. Our union is looking for a lead organizer to drive our work to build a strong and self-sustaining local union.
Job Duties
Work with leaders and field staff to develop and execute short- and long-term organizing plans in alignment with Local priorities outlined by the organizing committee and the executive board.
Mentor high-level leaders and field staff in the development of departmental, divisional, and new high-level leaders.
Support the maintenance of connections with allied groups outside of the Local, such as other campaigns and Locals at USC and the Region and Los Angeles political groups.
Connect members and leaders to union resources and support systems.
Manage data and trackers related to assigned departments.
Additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Highly organized, able to prioritize tasks, and consistently and independently follow through.
Responsive and communicative through email, text, and Slack.
Collaborative with other organizers.
At least 1-2 years of experience with member-to-member labor organizing and/or organizational communication; other relevant experience will be considered.
Ability to work on evenings and weekends when needed.
Ability to regularly work in person at the University Park Campus and occasionally at other sites in Los Angeles (e.g., UAW Region 6 office in Pico Rivera, Health Sciences Campus, and other USC worksites).
Knowledge of Google Workspace and Zoom.
Preference for applicants to be current graduate student workers at USC.
We are unable to sponsor a visa at this time.
Pay
Annual salary is $89,000 for 1 FTE.
